I just did a little calculatin', and I discovered that by the end of this week, I will have spent 6 days in transit to my final destination, and 35 hours in some sort of transportation vehicle (cars, trucks, planes, and trains) - about 33% of the time I'll be awake this week. Yeehaw.
So I meant to stop in Aleg for the night on Sunday so that the trip into Nouakchott wasntt so long, but when I was coming into town, I got a message from my buddy Jae that said he was in town and there was a Memorial Day barbeque in Nouakchott on Monday, so I decided to stick it out and finish the trip in. The only problem was that I started out the trip in the back of a pickup trunk, sitting on top of luggage, because I wasn't going in all the way, so that's where I stayed the rest of the way into Nouakchott, and I ended up spending 12 hours back there with four other guys (one was a Malian who didn't have his ID, so we had to stop for 15 minutes at every police checkpoint on the road - all 10 of them - so he could bribe the guards into letting him continue into town). That sucked.
But the barbeque was worth it.
And now I have my tickets from Casablanca to Dallas in hand, and nothing can stop me from coming home (yeah right - something always pops up on this bizarre land - I'm just waiting to see what the next obstacle to my vacation is going to be...).
